How Often Should You Clean Your Home?

The right cleaning cadence, daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal, for every room, plus when to bring in a pro.

Cleaning frequency is the most-asked question we get, and the answer isn't the same for every home. Pets, kids, allergies, square footage, and lifestyle all change the math. Here's the realistic guide we share with new LA clients.

Daily (5 minutes)

  • Wipe kitchen counters and stovetop after cooking
  • Make beds
  • Quick bathroom rinse, sink and faucet
  • Reset rooms before bed (5-minute tidy)

Weekly

  • Vacuum all floors and rugs
  • Mop hard floors
  • Full bathroom clean, toilet, tub, mirror, floor
  • Kitchen, wipe appliances, clean sink, mop
  • Dust visible surfaces
  • Change bedding
  • Take out all trash, replace liners

This is what a weekly recurring cleaning covers, and it's the cadence most LA clients book with us.

Bi-weekly

If weekly is too much, bi-weekly is the sweet spot for couples and small households. Same checklist as weekly, but expect every other Friday (or whatever day) to feel like a "real" reset.

Monthly

  • Wipe baseboards and door frames
  • Dust ceiling fans and light fixtures
  • Wipe inside microwave
  • Vacuum under cushions and furniture
  • Disinfect high-touch surfaces (handles, switches, remotes)

Quarterly (every 3 months)

  • Inside oven and refrigerator
  • Detail range hood and filters
  • Window tracks and sills
  • Wash windows (interior)
  • Vacuum mattresses and rotate

Bi-annual (every 4-6 months)

This is the cadence for a professional deep clean, baseboards, grout, range hood, light fixtures, ceiling fans, and detail work.

Annual

  • Carpet steam clean
  • Exterior windows
  • Pressure wash patios, driveways, exterior
  • Garage deep clean
  • Inside cabinet wipe-down

What's the right professional cadence?

For most LA homes:

  • Single, low-traffic apartment: monthly or bi-weekly
  • Couple, no kids: bi-weekly
  • Family with kids or pets: weekly
  • Busy professional household: weekly
  • Estate / large home: 1-2x weekly

Frequently asked questions

How often should I deep clean my home?

Every 4-6 months for most LA homes. More often if you have pets, allergies, or kids under 5.

Is weekly cleaning overkill?

Not for busy professionals or families. Weekly cleaning takes maintenance off your plate entirely and usually costs less per visit than bi-weekly.

Does cleaning frequency affect price?

Yes. Recurring clients get a quote for the schedule per visit on weekly service, 15% bi-weekly, and 10% monthly.

Can I switch frequency mid-plan?

Yes, Cleaning Nerds clients can change cadence anytime with no fees.
